Farhad Shamsaddin oglu Badalbeyli was born on December 27, 1947, in Baku, Azerbaijan.
In 1965, he graduated from the Bulbul Secondary Special Music School and entered the Uzeyir Hajibeyov Azerbaijan State Conservatory.
In 1969, he graduated with honors from the Uzeyir Hajibeyov Azerbaijan State Conservatory and entered the postgraduate course at the P.I. Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory, graduating in 1971.
He won competitions in Prague and Lisbon in 1967 and 1968. In 1971, he was appointed as a teacher at the Uzeyir Hajibeyov Azerbaijan State Conservatory, in 1973 as a senior teacher, in 1978 as an associate professor, and in 1985 as a professor.
In 1978, he was awarded the title of People's Artist of the Azerbaijan SSR, in 1985 the State Prize, in 1990 the title of People's Artist of the USSR, in 1997 he was awarded the Shohrat Order, and in 2017 the Istiglal Order.
Since 1991, he has been the rector of the Uzeyir Hajibeyli Baku Academy of Music.
Since 1989, he has been the chairman of the Union of Composers of Azerbaijan. Since 2009, he has been the artistic director of the Gabala Music Festival.
By the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated January 4, 2021, he was appointed a member of the Supervisory Board of the Karabakh Revival Fund.
