Alim Hamza oglu Gasimov was born on August 14, 1957.
From 1978 to 1982, he studied at the A. Zeynalli Baku Music School, and from 1983 to 1989 at the M.A. Aliyev Azerbaijan State Institute of Arts.
In 1988, he won first prize at the International Samarkand Festival. Since 1988, he has been representing mugham music worldwide. His creative biography is rich with festivals and concerts in countries such as the USA, France, Germany, Switzerland, Scotland, Iran, and others.
On November 19, 1999, he was awarded the UNESCO International Music Prize in Aachen, Germany.
In 1999, the presentation of the disc "Love of the Deep Ocean", which is very popular in Europe, and a documentary film about A. Gasimov, shot by UNESCO, took place.
In 1993, he was awarded the honorary title of "People's Artist" of Azerbaijan. In the same year, he was awarded a music medal in Paris, and in 1994 in Houston. From 1989 to 2001, more than 10 discs of A. Gasimov were released in Europe. In 2001, he won first prize at the International Samarkand Festival. Within the framework of cooperation with the Aga Khan Foundation, a presentation of another documentary film and a new disc about A. Gasimov was held in America. He is currently a participant in the "Great Silk Road" project organized by the famous cellist Yo-Yo Ma, which tours the world's most famous concert halls, and a member of the "Silk Road Ensemble" composed of world musicians.
Since 1989, he has been a soloist of the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater. He has performed roles such as "Majnun" and "Ashig Garib" on the opera stage. He has given dozens of concerts at the Heydar Aliyev Palace and the M. Magomayev Azerbaijan State Academic Philharmonic Hall.
He is a teacher and associate professor at the A. Zeynalli Baku Music School.
Alim Gasimov was awarded the Shohrat Order in 2008 and the title of Professor in 2009. In 2010, he was awarded the Azerbaijan State Prize. This award was personally presented by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev.
By the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated January 4, 2021, he was appointed a member of the Supervisory Board of the Karabakh Revival Fund.
