On 26 September 2025, an event dedicated to 27 September — Memorial Day was held at Baku State University (BSU).

The event was attended by deputies of the Milli Majlis (Parliament) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, officials, family members of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the Motherland, war veterans, and representatives of the public.

At the outset, the participants of the event visited the monument erected to the memory of the martyrs and the corner dedicated to the fallen alumni of the University, laying a wreath and placing bouquets of flowers.

The event then continued in the Great Assembly Hall. First, the State Anthem was performed, after which the cherished memory of the martyrs who gave their lives for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our Motherland was honored with a minute of silence.

Speaking at the event, Elchin Babayev, Rector of BSU, stated that this year marks the 5th anniversary of our glorious Victory, inscribed in golden letters in the history of our independent state. In response to the next military provocation committed by Armenia against Azerbaijan on 27 September 2020, the victorious Azerbaijani Army launched a counter-offensive along the entire front line and liberated our lands that had long been under occupation. On our ancient lands, watered by the blood of our martyrs, our tricolour flag was raised to wave forever.

The Rector noted that hundreds of BSU alumni took part and displayed bravery in the 44-day Patriotic War, 22 of whom ascended to the peak of martyrdom.

Rahman Hajiyev, Chairman of the Executive Board of the Karabakh Revival Fund, stated that the fifth anniversary of Memorial Day that we are marking is not only a day of sorrow and grief for us, but also a symbol of our solidarity, national will, and faith in the future. “Today we bow our heads before the souls of the martyrs, and at the same time, in order to realize their aspirations, we are working with determination to rebuild our liberated lands, to revive Karabakh,” he said.

“As the Karabakh Revival Fund, we are proud to be a part of this sacred mission,” emphasized the Chairman of the Executive Board.

Speaking at the event, Musa Gasimli, Deputy Speaker of the Milli Majlis, Professor, Members of the Milli Majlis Rizvan Nabiyev and Parvin Karimzade, and Serkhan Veysalli, alumnus of the Faculty of Information and Document Management of BSU and participant in the Patriotic War, stated that this day—on which the people rose to struggle for a common cause and which marks the beginning of a history of heroism—has left an eternal mark in memories.

In the speeches it was noted that during the days of the Patriotic War our people united as one fist around the Victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief and our Army, and that the sacred memory of the martyrs will live forever.

Following the speeches, an artistic composition prepared by the Culture and Creativity Center of BSU was presented.
