As is known, on 15 September, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev visited the mulberry orchard established on an area of 13 hectares in Dashbulag village of the Khojaly district. During the visit, the Head of State was informed about the work carried out.
The project, implemented by the public legal entity “Restoration, Construction and Management Service in the city of Khankendi, and in the Aghdara and Khojaly districts,” aims not only to restore the ecological balance and create new green spaces in the Khojaly district, but also to develop sericulture and the silk industry in the area, and to ensure employment for the population resettled to the district through the creation of new jobs.
In accordance with the first phase of the project, which is being implemented with the financial support (grant) of 693,607.20 AZN allocated by the Karabakh Revival Fund, 130,000 mulberry trees imported from the People’s Republic of China have been planted on a total area of 13 hectares, with 10,000 saplings per hectare, thereby establishing a feed base for silkworms.
At the same time, a modern drip irrigation system has been installed in the orchard.
It should be noted that within the framework of the second phase of the project, which is planned to be implemented in the coming months, an additional 1.5 million mulberry saplings imported from the People’s Republic of China will be planted on 150 hectares of land.
Within the framework of the project, it is also planned to develop the silk industry, build cocoon houses in the surrounding area, organise the feeding of silkworms and the production of fresh cocoons, as well as establish the necessary infrastructure for processing the raw materials.
Currently, the work on ploughing, treatment, and clearing the area of weeds is underway.
It should be emphasised that providing financial support for activities related to the restoration of ecological balance in the liberated territories, as well as creating new jobs and ensuring economic development for people returning to their native lands, is one of the priority areas of activity of the Karabakh Revival Fund.
