Information about the Conference:

1st International Scientific-Practical Conference on "Building a New Economy in Karabakh: Development impulses from Aghdam" was jointly organized by the Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Aghdam region, the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Karabakh Revival Fund, and the Institute of Economics of the ANAS on September 16-17, 2021.

The primary purpose of the conference was to discuss possible methods for establishing a sustainable and continuous economic development model in the Aghdam region and throughout Karabakh, as well as the application of green energy, smart cities, and other innovative technologies.

Before the conference, the participants visited various sites in Aghdam city, including the monuments of Karabakh Khans, the Imaret cemetery, the Bread Museum, the Aghdam State Drama Theater, the Juma Mosque, and the Central Square. Later, they planted trees together on the land of Aghdam.

During the conference, a speech by Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva, the First Vice President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, on "New Economic Development in Karabakh: Development Impulses from Aghdam" was presented to the participants.

• Deputy Minister of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Sahib Alekberov
• Chairman of the Executive Board of the Karabakh Revival Fund, Rahman Hajiyev
• Rector of the Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC), Professor Adalat Muradov
• Deputy Chairman of the State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Salmanov
• Professor Akif Musayev from the Institute of Economics of the ANAS
• Foreign expert Amanda Paul (European Policy Center, Belgium)
• Foreign expert Dr. Venzeslav Sabev (Management, Innovation, and Values Center Director, Sweden)
• Foreign expert Dr. Jeanene-Mae Mitchell (Ellison Research Center, USA), and others.

The conference, which featured the presentation of more than 100 scientific articles, involved extensive discussions on topics such as new economic development in Karabakh, the importance of economists' research in this regard, the natural resources and green energy potential of Karabakh, the issues of the return of internally displaced persons to Aghdam and other regions of Karabakh, and other topics.

A question-and-answer session was held with the participation of local and foreign guests. The next day the conference proceedings continued in video format.

Conference Outcome:

Considering the importance of the international scientific-practical conference on "Building New Economy in Karabakh: Development Impulses from Aghdam" held in Aghdam on September 16-17, 2021, its materials have been published as a book.

The book, published on the occasion of the conference anniversary, includes the conference participants' addresses to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, a congratulatory letter from the First Vice President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva, to the conference participants, opening remarks by the leaders of the organizing institutions, and presentations and articles of the conference participants in three languages - Azerbaijani, English, and Russian.
