Discussions were held on ensuring inclusivity in the Fuzuli Central Park
On March 1, a meeting was held to discuss the provision of inclusivity in the Fuzuli Central Park, to be opened in the liberated city of Fuzuli with the initiative of the Karabakh Revival Fund (KRF).
The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Executive Board of the Karabakh Revival Fund Rahman Hajiyev, the Chairperson of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs Bahar Muradova, the director of the project and “By Medgalchi” LTD Huseyn Medgalchi, the executive director of the State Support Agency for Non-Governmental Organizations Aygun Aliyeva, the president of the Azerbaijan Union of Disabled People’s Organizations Davud Rahimli, the director of the Heydar Aliyev Modern Education Complex Aygun Mikayilova, the program coordinator at the World Bank Leyla Tagiyeva, organizer at the "Different Persons" Congress for Special Care Suzanna Burezgi, the president of the public association “Ekosfera” Social-Ecological Center Firuza Sultan-zade, architects Togrul Bayramov and Ilqar Manafsoy, as well as representatives of non-governmental organizations, and donor partners of the Karabakh Revival Fund.
Participants of the meeting discussed the importance of considering inclusivity standards in the design of the Fuzuli Central Park (across different ages, physical abilities and interest groups), ensuring maximum comfort for individuals with permanent physical or sensory impairments (for mobility, sports, relaxation, etc.), creating multifunctional inclusive play areas for children, as well as free movement areas for pets, and other topics.
Opening the event, the Chairman of the Executive Board of the Karabakh Revival Fund Rahman Hajiyev, noted that the concept design of the Fuzuli Central Park was prepared taking into account the instructions and recommendations of President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva. He emphasized that the development of the park area will not only contribute significantly to the restoration of ecological balance but will also transform it into one of the most attractive recreation areas for both residents and visitors of Fuzuli.
According to Rahman Haciyev's words, who stated that President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva pay special attention to the restoration of Fuzuli district, especially its ecological balance, the participation of our country's leader and the First Lady in the tree-planting campaign twice in Fuzuli city serves as clear evidence of this.
Rahman Hajiyev emphasized that during the planning of the Fuzuli Central Park, special attention was paid to ensuring comfortable conditions for individuals with limited physical abilities, children and elderly people. He stated that international best practices were utilized in preparing proposals related to this issue.
Huseyn Medgalchi, the director of "By Medgalchi" LTD and the project leader, provided detailed information about the concept of the Fuzuli Central Park. He mentioned that the park area, where various tree species and decorative plants will be planted, is planned to include recreation areas, open green spaces, areas for picnics and sports, an amphitheater, cafes, restaurants, etc.
Huseyn Medgalchi also emphasized that necessary measures will be taken to ensure comfortable rest for people with limited physical abilities and easy access to facilities in the park area.
Bahar Muradova, the Chairperson of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs, spoke about the reconstruction and development works carried out in the liberated territories, expressing confidence that the Fuzuli Central Park, located in the heart of Fuzuli city, will become one of the favorite relaxation spots for city residents.
Highlighting the favorable location chosen for the establishment of the park, Bahar Muradova emphasized that it being situated on the Victory Road is significant.
Participants who had previously been presented with the pre-conceptual design and other relevant documents of the Fuzuli Central Park (can access the documents via this link) voiced their opinions and suggestions on the subject. Suggestions included installing information boards at the park's entrances and exits, considering ramps, ensuring sanitary facilities are accessible, creating sand playgrounds for children, installing information boards reflecting the history of Fuzuli and Karabakh, constructing covered entertainment areas, and other proposals.
Participants of the event positively evaluated the consideration of international best practices and the involvement of experts in the field of inclusivity in the planning process of the park, expressing their readiness to participate as experts in the future.
At the end of the discussion, Rahman Hajiyev, the Chairman of the Executive Board of the Karabakh Revival Fund, expressed his gratitude to the meeting participants for their active participation and assured them that the ideas and suggestions voiced during the discussions will be taken into account in the development of the Fuzuli Central Park.
It should be noted that the development project of the Fuzuli Central Park is being implemented upon the request of the Karabakh Revival Fund.
