Restoration of Forest in Zangilan District
About project
Project Overview:
During the period of occupation, the natural forests of Karabakh, home to a diverse range of valuable tree and shrub species and constituting 42% of Azerbaijan's flora, suffered extensive damage. This destruction led to a significant reduction in the region's biodiversity.
Under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, as part of the restoration and reconstruction efforts in the liberated territories, the project "Restoration of Forest in Zangilan District" was launched on December 17, 2021, with the aim of eliminating the consequences of ecological terrorism.
As part of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Karabakh Revival Fund (KRF), a project has been implemented in Zangilan. The project involved planting a total of 30,000 trees, primarily suited to the local climate, including Eldar pine, evergreen cypress, juniper, gleditsia, and oriental plane trees, across 30 hectares of land at the entrance of Zangilan city.
Planned Activities:
Under the initiative and organization of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and with the financial support of the Karabakh Revival Fund (KRF) and KRF donors, the project involved the planting of 30,000 trees of various species.
