Restoration of Forest in Zangilan District

As part of the visit to Zangilan, an afforestation project involving 30,000 trees, along with a tree-planting campaign in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the national leader Heydar Aliyev, was organized.

Entering the East Zangezur economic region, the journey included visits to Gubadly, Jabrayil, and Zangilan districts with the support of the Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the organization of the Karabakh Revival Fund, where more than 20 donors and partners of the Fund, as well as representatives of the public, participated.

Initially, participants were provided with information about the afforestation project by the EcoSphere Social-Ecological Center Union, with financial support from the Karabakh Revival Fund and organizational support from the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Rahman Hajiyev, Chairman of the Executive Board of the Karabakh Revival Fund, emphasized that as a result of the Armenian occupation, significant damage has been inflicted not only on the cities and villages of Karabakh but also on its ecology - its forest cover, biodiversity, and water reserves. Recognizing the importance and scale of this problem, the Karabakh Revival Fund has identified the restoration of ecological balance in the liberated territories as one of its priority directions.

It was informed that the Karabakh Revival Fund and the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the elimination of environmental damage and restoration of ecological balance in the liberated territories. In accordance with the Memorandum, the afforestation project in Zangilan was launched on December 17, 2021, within the framework of the "From Victory to Revival" project.

Rahman Hajiyev highlighted the support of donor companies in the implementation of the project. According to the project, 30 hectares of land were allocated at the entrance to Zangilan city for the planting of 30,000 trees, primarily including indigenous species suitable for the local climate conditions such as Eldar pine, Evergreen oak, Beech, Acer, and Oriental plane trees.

All works carried out on the afforestation project site were in accordance with forest restoration requirements. Energy supply and irrigation systems were installed, and regular monitoring was ensured over the planted area.

The area where the afforestation project was carried out was visited, and a comprehensive review of the project's progress was conducted.

Following the completion of the afforestation project in Zangilan, the Karabakh Revival Fund will initiate greening projects in other liberated territories.
